![]() ![]() In the end of the day both form a picture but a jigsaw puzzle is comprised of many pieces which can be swapped around much more easily than repainting a canvas. But, you can change out the textures should you so desire.Ĭomparing Minetest to Minecraft is like comparing a jigsaw puzzle to a painting. They don't really follow pixel art rules that well, so other than the 16x16 size, they tend not to look like Pixel art in many instances. But you may find them distasteful if you are familiar with Minecraft. And they range from worse than Alpha Minecraft, to actually pretty good. You have to install a mod or different game (more powerful modpacks) to have mobs. The mobs do not function the same, especially not in Mineclone2. Minetest instead has a very earth-like gravity, but still allows the player to jump a little over a meter in one go due the the huge size of blocks. It is done that way to make in-game jumps take the same amount of time as real jumps which are much shorter. Minecraft, like many other games has a really high gravity. Gravity is a more realistic value for instance. I don't mind it, but some people will find the implementation of some features jarring at best. ![]() Minetest never feels like Minecraft no matter the effort put in by the game. This is often offset by mods, but you only get whatever new features a modder wanted badly enough to create and put in the work get the mod approved. 5.6 brought shaders, but they had been years in development. Minetest rarely sees new features of any big size. Now, I have bragged for a bit, there are some flaws. Mods, texture packs, and games, are easy to install from in-game as well. Several Survival games have been made, at least one building game, and several from other genres as well. If you have the patience, it is a game engine that can make many types of game. Minetest can support games with all sorts of features. It is noticeably oriented towards new (mostly young) players and schools with Education Edition. Since Microsoft bought Minecraft they have been inching toward its true goal: to make money. Minetest is made for the player, the modder, the hacker, the student and more. Want to fly in a survival world? Go ahead. Even creative mode is split up to be modular. Don't like item stacks of 99 or 64, change it. It also has a modding API that allows all but the most complicated of Minecraft style mods to actually be easier to implement. Minetest is built on cubic chunks instead of the long slender tubes of Minecraft. ![]() Not in a reasonable amount of time anyway. Minetest has some technical feats that Minecraft never will though. Well, if they like Minecraft as-is, chances are very high that they will never enjoy Minetest the same. ![]()
